Bill Gates, the Microsoft Messiah, has recently announces his company’s venture into global communication market with application of Unified Communications concept. According to Gates, Microsoft will play major role in the implementation of the concept of Unified Communications into its communication services that are in the offing. Jeff Raikes, president of the Microsoft Business Division also says that Microsoft, through Unified Communications Software, will transform the face of business communication in the next couple of years. He adds that Microsoft is already in the VoIP game and their customers are enjoying the cost-advantage with quality voice communications.

What Unified Communications Can Do

Gates believes that Unified Communications will add many advantages to the existing the communication services such as:

  • It will be easy and convenient to find contact information for co-workers and business partners.
  • It will use presence and calendaring to find the appropriate times and ways to connect to co-workers and business partners
  • It will help to a great deal by reducing the amount of time that it requires to schedule meetings, wait on hold, play phone tag and so forth.
  • It will enhance the IT manageability and security of instant messaging
  • It will make video calling much simpler
  • It will simplify the setup of audio and video conferencing
  • It will facilitate the deployment of voice communications for new users and to change/move current users
  • It will open the floodgate to Communications-Enabled Business Processes (CEBP), which can utilize events from business systems (reports, databases, monitoring programs, GPS systems, cameras, etc.) to automatically trigger alert messages to the appropriate worker(s).
  • It will enable fixed-mobile convergence so that cell phones and smartphones can be equipped with software applets that allow them to become an extension of the business communications network
